Anthony Sampson has understood the value of mentorship since he was a young man. Growing up in Houston, he had a mentor who helped him see the importance of volunteering and giving back to his community. By the time he graduated from college and settled in Dallas, he knew he wanted to share some of that wisdom and experience with the next generation. The organization matches Black male mentors with mostly young Black men to help them live up to their potential and contribute to society.

In an online petition launched by Chanel Contos in February, thousands of women have now disclosed instances of sexual harrassment and assault when at school parties. But the petition was quickly swamped with personal testimonies, feeding into the broader national discussion about sexism and misogyny that had emerged after former government staffer Brittany Higgins alleged she had been sexually assaulted by another staff member at parliament house. In an opinion piece in The Guardian , Contos wrote that everyone contributes to rape culture, including herself. She said:. Of course I called girls sluts […] of course I called people frigid and of course I made my friends feel insecure about their level of sexual activity. Of course I did, because everyone I knew did. Sexual bullying is not something we can ignore.
What we know about it
The impact of porn on men has been studied, but little is known about how it could affect women. Between the ages of 11 and 16, Neelam watched porn most days. She quickly got over that initial shock. She wasn't alone. For Neelam, it started with a simple curiosity about sex. As Neelam became more well-versed in the kinds of videos that were available, she began to develop certain tastes. It just felt like I was satisfying a need. I remember how quickly I got desensitised to it — 10 men and one woman, orgies that were basically a writhing mass of bodies, women being slapped or otherwise humiliated — and I was accessing all this before I had even had sex. I still watch it, though not as much, but I do think that after using it regularly for more than 10 years, I now find it difficult to orgasm without some higher level of stimulation, like a vibrator.
Sexting is making sexually suggestive images and sharing these images using mobile phones or by posting them on the internet and social media. The images might be photographs of yourself or someone else naked or partially naked. You might think that sexting is something risky, dangerous and illegal. For teenagers, sexting is often fun and consensual. They might also see sexting as part of building relationships and self-confidence, and exploring sexuality, bodies and identities. Young people do worry about their images being shared with other people, including friends and family members. Many try to reduce this risk by making images only for people they trust, and with whom they have or hope to have a romantic or intimate relationship. Young people want to be able to talk openly and honestly with their parents about sexting.
